The Biden administration released the first-ever United States Ocean Justice Strategy; a big step for ocean health and historically underserved communities that rely on our ocean and coasts. Communities of color, Indigenous communities, small island communities and those in U.S. territories have long been bearing the brunt of the effects of climate change and ocean mismanagement—despite having done the least to cause these ocean problems!
Sadly, this important work is under attack in the halls of power. An amendment in the House Interior, Environment and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill prohibits funds for the development, implementation and interagency coordination of an Ocean Justice Strategy, and the bill is on the way to the Senate.
Now, it’s on all of us to ensure the White House can follow through with this plan and protect our people and our ocean for generations to come. Act now and tell the Senate to reject this unjust and inequitable bill.
