Waves are powerful. They turn cliffs into sandy beaches, help sweep baby turtles out to sea, and alter the entire shape of coastlines. Waves can even power solutions to the climate crisis.
The repetitive and fairly predictable nature of waves and tides make them particularly valuable renewable energy sources. And now, wave and tidal energy technologies are being developed to responsibly harness this kinetic energy in a way that is safe for marine life and supports communities.
The recently introduced Marine Energy Technologies Acceleration Act would help further advance these new forms of marine renewable energy and help us develop the tools we need to tackle the climate crisis.
By paving the way for a new clean ocean energy future, we can reduce our dependence on dirty fossil fuels and protect the ocean and its wildlife and communities from the worst impacts of climate change. We can create a better future for our ocean.
