This month we received exciting news for the Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released the final Environmental Impact Statement. This was the final step needed before this sanctuary can be finalized. It is a huge win for the first Tribally nominated National Marine Sanctuary in the United States and is a result of over forty years of campaigning by the Northern Chumash Tribal Council.
Thank NOAA for this important step forward in the protection of our ocean.
Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary will be the third largest in the National Marine Sanctuary System and a protected area for nationally significant natural, ecological, historical and cultural resources. Let’s get the Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary over the finish line and protect this important ocean habitat.
