A growing number of marine mammal populations and their habitats are in danger due to human activities. Plastic pollution, vessel strikes, underwater noise and more are causing an uptick in both harm and mortality.
Proposals to slash funding for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will cripple the agency’s ability to meet its mandate to protect, conserve and recover these animal populations. This situation, coupled with deep agency staff cuts, is causing us to sound the alarm bells.
To ensure these special species are safeguarded and can thrive for years to come, Congress must invest in the critical programs that are designed to uphold the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Take action now and urge your lawmakers to defend some of our ocean’s most vulnerable animals.
