Tell Oil Companies: Clean Up Your Mess
As the Trump administration looks to expand offshore drilling around the United States, moving into deeper environments than ever, oil and gas companies aren’t cleaning up their messes currently sitting in our ocean—potential disasters just waiting to happen.
Idle or abandoned oil platforms and wells pose a serious risk to our ocean, wildlife and coastal communities. By law, oil and gas companies are required to clean up after themselves once production ceases, also known as decommissioning. But they often find ways to evade that responsibility, leaving taxpayers, towns and the ocean environment to foot the bill.
Enough is enough. Together, we can hold oil companies and regulators accountable by urging our elected officials to support decommissioning efforts like the Plug Offshore Wells Act. Add your name now.
