Filter Out NSFW Microplastics

Did you know that just one load of laundry can release up to 18 million microplastic fibers (sometimes called microfibers), many of which make their way into our ocean? These microplastic fibers are a massive problem for our ocean, our environment and us humans. Simply put, microplastic fibers are NSFW—Not Safe For Wash.

Microplastic fibers are tiny thread-like pieces of plastic that shed from our clothes as we make, wear and wash them. Nearly 70% of clothing and other textiles are made from these synthetic fibers … AKA plastics. And when we do laundry, thousands of microplastic fibers are caught in dryer lint traps, so why not equip our washing machines with the same tools?

Fortunately, there is an easy, cost-effective solution. Washing machine filters can reduce microplastic fibers from laundry by roughly 90%. Enough of the rinse and repeat cycles—add your name and call on your elected leaders to take action NOW to require filters on all new washing machines.
