A Future Free of Plastic Pollution

Right now, Congress is considering two bills that would weaken recyclability standards, make it more confusing for consumers to understand the impacts of their products and undermine efforts to set stronger standards and improve our recycling system. That’s why we’re calling on our elected leaders to reject the Recycled Materials Attribution Act (RMAA), H.R. 7502, and the Packaging and Claims Knowledge (PACK) Act, H.R. 6832.

The RMAA would set weak industry standards for counting recycled content and allow for plastics turned into fossil fuels to count as “recycled” content, making it more difficult for consumers like you and me to evaluate marketing claims on recycled content. The PACK Act would make recyclable, compostable or reusable labels even more confusing for consumers and prevent state legislators from stepping in and requiring clarity for their constituents.
