We know sea ice is shrinking. Prior to 1900, Arctic sea ice extent would have covered an area about the size of the continental United States. Now, it covers an area just half that size. The continued loss of sea ice in the Arctic will affect not only the people who live in the region and its incredible wildlife but our entire planet as well. We need to take action on climate change now.
The Coast Guard might not be the first institution that comes to mind when you are thinking about climate action. But the Coast Guard has an important role in the United States’ response to the climate crisis. The agency needs to be ready to respond to climate-related weather events and plays an important role in promoting green shipping. We need climate action at every level if we are truly going to tackle this global threat.
We have an opportunity right now to make a difference. The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking input about what changes it should make to combat and respond to climate change. They want to hear from you.
Tell the Coast Guard to take action on climate change now.
