Now is the time to take action to build a future free of plastic pollution.
Negotiators will soon convene to continue discussions on the international legally binding instrument (ILBI) on plastic pollution, more commonly referred to as the global plastics treaty. We need to ensure it is ambitious enough to end the plastic pollution crisis and pave the way for a healthier future for our ocean and our communities.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tackle not just one, but in fact two, of the biggest threats facing our ocean today: plastic pollution and climate change. We must keep in mind, after all, that plastics drive fossil fuel demand and greenhouse-gas emissions. This agreement offers an incredible opportunity to forge a new future for our ocean and our planet.
